Hi Folks,
Ms. Yvonne Knights informed me that there are several Senior Centres located here in Trinidad. These centres were established by the Ministry of Social Development a few years ago. In Chaguanas there is an active senior centre managed by the Ministry of Community Development in conjuncation with the Trinidad and Tobago Association of Retired Persons.
The purpose of these centre is to recreate and educate persons age 50 and over. This will help to reduce the number of depression, loneliness and 'empty nest syndrome. Members meet on a daily bases at:
41 Jamine Avenue, Phase 11 Edinburgh Gardens, Chaguanas.
Here they learn how to Ballroom Dance, Do Aerobics, Yoga, and Tai Chi, Information and Technology and even go on field trips.
Anyone who is interested in joining or learning more about this senior centre should call Ms. Ann Brown at 1(868) 672-1478
Bye for Now,
Georgette

This is a great idea. Too many seniors are left alone in boredom after they retire.
There should be many more of these centres all around the country.
I am sure that there can be a programme for seniors to interact with the youth to share their wisdom.
This will be an equitable exchange since the seniors will benefit from the vitality that is inspired with their interaction with the vivaciousness of youth.
