For years I have struggled with weight issues, I guess its genetics. I have been contemplating on the importance of building relationships, particularly with people who can support me in my effort to maintain a healthy lifestyle. This I thought is integral to changing my mindset with respect to eating healthy, regular exercise and by extension living a healthy lifestyle.

For persons who have been struggling with weight issues over the years, whether it’s due to poor eating habits, lack of exercise, etc. do you think that surrounding yourself with people who want to live and are living a healthy lifestyle would be an effective support system?

Please share your thoughts .

Yes Joanne i do believe being around people who want to achieve eating healthy exercising and making health and fitness a way of life is a great way to keep up with the struggles of being healthy and feeling good about our selves. Weight loss is a very hard thing to acheive so thats y i beleive in making health and fitnesss part of my life so i can stop worrying about my weight gain and start to figure out how to live a better life since loosing weight is going to become automatic for me.

Even though I totally agree that what and who you surround yourself with is an integral part of being oneself progressive and successful in any endeavour, to me it is not a sure method to a production resulted end. We see it daily, having good parents doesn't ensure you turn out to be a good person, just as living with thieves doesn't automatically mean you will be one, all I'm saying is that it starts and ends with you!!!  What and who you surround yourself with is and can be an asset, the problem in that starts when you develop a dependecy syndrome on your support system. I've seen unhealthy people maintain friendships with healthy ones and that hasn't changed who they are. Bottom line what ever you want for yourself you will make it happen, it's a mindset change, You have to first hate it to want to change it, if you don't hate it you will never want to change it. and what you feed WILL GROW... lol...

To a certain extent you are right, i know that its starts and ends with the particular individual, however, you have to remember, no man is an island. What does this mean? Within this context, it means we need the support of people who are in similar situations. In this way one can empathize, that is, walk around in the other peron's shoes a bit and know or feel what the other person is feeling. This is a common interest/goal that bring persons together, to fight together, as a result relationships develop and this my friend is the key to your personal victory. Think about it. Let me leave you with  these words "Encouragement from others, feed on the Will power of another, it drives to action:"

Hey Afi

Am glad you get the picture. As you would realize that we already have the support system through the 5 O Clock Krew movement,  since it is about a better way to live inclusive of physical activities, Weight Management, Diet Managment and most importantly love. Love is exhibited through the level of intimacy and commadrie created among our Krew members. Lets stick together as we fight of the bulge. Remember the Krew philosophy, 'Be action oriented', then you will see results. Keep fighting my friend
